Snow Sparks Another Win
STANFORD -- Senior Daniela Snow led the BYU women's softball team to a 6-1 win on Thursday against Princeton in Stanford Calif. The Cougars are now 16-11.
Snow hit a two-run shot over the left field wall to spark an offensive rally that gained momentum through the remainder of the game. Snow leads the team with a .392 batting average and 26 RBI. The homer is her tenth on the season.
Sophomore Christie Zinanti recorded the win, when she gave up one run off of five hits in 5.1 innings. The win improves her record to 6-6.
Zinanti maintained control of the game as it stayed in a deadlock until the top of the fourth inning when Snow's two RBI bomb, followed by a solo shot from Senior Emi Snow-Willing put the Cougars up 3-0.
BYU scored two more runs in the top of the fifth inning when Princeton pitcher Jamie Lettire walked in one run and another scored off of a wild pitch. With the Cougars' 5-0 lead the Tigers would try to come back in the bottom half of the inning.
Zinanti struck out the lead off batter but a single followed by a stolen base put a runner in scoring position. Another single brought in the Princeton base runner, and another single put runners at the corners. Zinanti held the Tigers their lone run when she claimed the last out of the inning.
In the top of the sixth two walks and a single loaded the bases and then relief pitcher Kristen Schaus walked in another BYU run.
Christina Gwyn-Trice came in to relieve Zinanti during the fifth inning, and closed the game giving the Cougars the 6-1 win.
The game opened play at the 2008 Stanford Invitational II, where BYU is slated to play four games in three days time. It marks the final regular-season tournament for the Cougars this season.
BYU plays on Friday at 12 p.m. against East Carolina, and again on Saturday at 4 p.m. when they play a double header against No. 5 Stanford, followed by Wisconsin. BYU and Wisconsin met earlier in the season, where The Cougars defeated the Badgers 3-1.
