Defeated in Pitchers' Duel

LAS -- The BYU Cougars advanced to 12-11 on the season, after falling against Nebraska in the first of two games at the UNLV Round Robin on Friday.

The game began as a pitchers' duel between BYU hurler Christie Zinanti and Nebraska's Alex Hupp. Zinanti kept the Huskers scoreless until the sixth inning when a slew of defensive mistakes allowed two runs for Nebraska.

Zinanti gave up seven hits in seven innings, including two walks and hitting four batters. She is now 3-6 on the season.

The Cougars managed to get off three hits, including a double from Daniela Snow in the bottom of the seventh inning, yet they were unable to capitalize on the base runners.

Before Snow led the seventh inning with a double to center, BYU had little offensive excitement. A pair of walks loaded the bases after Snow's hit, brining pinch hitter Shaylyn Jenkins up to bat.

With a 2-2 count Jenkins struck out swinging, which brought BYU leading slugger Angeline Quiocho to the plate. Quiocho hit a ground ball to the shortstop, who flipped the ball to the second baseman to end the game.

The Cougars face Nebraska again on Saturday at noon before returning for their home opener on Monday against South Dakota State.
