PROVO -- Christina Gwyn pitched a one-hitter in a 10-2 BYU (18-14) win over Idaho State (4-28).

Bengal junior Christine Shollenberger broke up Gwyn's no-hitter with a sixth inning lead-off chopper that bounced just over the third baseman's head. The win was the ninth of the season for Gwyn

"She only got one hitter's count," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said, "and only two walks. You can do good things when you only have two walks."

The Cougars struck first in the second inning with bases loaded and Andi Ramirez up to bat. Ramirez smacked a line drive into center field, scoring Cortney Nix-Clark and Angeline Quiocho for the 2-0 lead. Senior Jennifer Whiteley followed suit with a line drive of her own that sailed just left of the reach of the Bengals' shortstop and notched two more on the scoreboard. Tracee Hoch bunted her way on next, and a fielding error by the ISU first baseman brought Ramirez home. An Emi Snow hit gave BYU a 5-0 lead heading into the third.

Idaho State scored two unearned runs in the fourth to get to within three, but BYU got a run back in the bottom of the order with a Jodi Norton RBI-single. Later in the fifth Quiocho stole her ninth base of the season, allowing Gonzales to slap Quiocho to third. After Gonzales stole second, Ramirez drove both runners home for her third and fourth RBI of the day.

"I have to learn to play my game," Ramirez said. "Once we have confidence we can come together, and there are amazing things we can do. Each girl did what they had to do today."

Snow kept up her hot hitting with a lead-off double in the sixth that Bengals' centerfielder Nicole Antonoplos couldn't quite get her glove under. Two batters later, Dani Urincho had Snow and pinch-runner Jana Anderson in scoring position and took advantage of the opportunity. A wild pitch sent Snow home, and Urincho drove in Anderson with a sacrifice fly to center field that ended the game at 10-2.

Snow finished a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. As a team, BYU hit .444 to Idaho State's .050.

"Offensively we executed well and got key hits," Eakin said. "It's nice to see all facets of the game working today."

BYU goes back on the road to begin conference play next week starting with a double-header against San Diego State on Thursday. The teams play at 3 p.m. (PST) and 5 p.m., with the first game being broadcast on CSTV. Friday the Cougars visit UNLV for a 7 p.m. (PST) matchup followed by a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday. All games will be available through live stats.
