Le`i, Boyce-Humbert Lead Victory
STANFORD -- Brooke Boyce-Humbert pitched a three-hit shutout and BYU extended its season-high winning streak to five with a 4-0 victory over Middle Tennessee State Thursday afternoon at the Stanford Classic.
Boyce-Humbert struck out five batters, while not surrendering a walk for an efficient victory. The win is the third for Boyce-Humbert in her last three appearances. During that stretch she has only given up one earned run. Ianeta Le`i took care of the offensive production, knocking in three of the Cougars` four runs.
"Overall we played well today," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "It was windy and cold but we hit the ball well and Brooke pitched a great game."
The Cougars (15-5) got some early hits but were unable to get any runs across until the third inning. In the third, Le`i nailed a two-run double after Andrea Ramirez and Krystle Chamberlain got on base in front of her. Two batters later, Paige Paramore singled to left field to score Stephanie Platt, who was running for Le`i.
BYU struck again the very next inning. The speedy Chamberlain laid down a bunt single and stole second to set herself up to score again. Le`i delivered the clutch hit for the Cougars, an RBI single up the middle.
In BYU's victory over the Blue Raiders, the Cougars put together a double-digit hitting performance for the third consecutive game.
Up next for BYU is a doubleheader. The Cougars have a morning game against Miami (Ohio) before an evening game with Pacific. Game times are set for 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.
