COLLEGE STATION -- In its first game against a ranked opponent, BYU started quick but didn't build a large enough lead as No. 14 Texas A&M beat the Cougars, 3-2.

For the second time in as many weeks, BYU (10-5) took a lead into the bottom of the seventh inning but was unable to shut the door.

BYU got off to a quick start, scoring in the top of the first inning. Krystle Chamberlain scored on a RBI single by Ashlyn Russell to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

Texas A&M tried to come back in the bottom of the third when it got two runners in scoring position. Tobias got BYU out of the jam unscathed by forcing a fly out to record the third out of the inning.

The Cougars were on the brink of a huge inning in the fifth when Jennifer Whiteley led the inning off with a triple. Two batters later, Andrea Ramirez picked up her own triple and RBI when went opposite field down the first base line.

BYU had runners on first and third with the heart of the order up but A&M pitcher Megan Gibson only allowed the one run.

The Aggies scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth when Gibson hit a home run to left center field. The homer ended Tobias' streak of holding opponents scoreless at 12 innings. The hit was only Texas A&M's second on the game.

Things unraveled for the Cougars in the seventh when A&M got a lead-off double followed by an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. After two more hits and two outs, the Cougars walked Gibson to load the bases and bring up Amanda Scarborough who delivered a game-winning single.

BYU will get another shot at the Aggies tomorrow when the sane two teams play at 1:30 MST. The Cougars will also play College of Charleston at 11:15.
