On the Road Again

PROVO -- The BYU softball team walked away with a victory over USU in Tuesday's double-header, but lost the first game 2-7. The Cougars came back in the second game shutting them down 8-0.

The Cougars' loss in the first game ended their 19-game winning streak against the Aggies. BYU played without two starters.

"We had a few players who were resting, Summer Tobias and Krystle Chamberlain, but that shouldn't have made a difference," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "Lindi Kennedy played well in place of Krystle."

Kennedy hit a homerun in the first game giving the Cougars their second run for the game.

"We came out flat in the first game," Eakin said. "They just outplayed us. Maybe we took them too lightly."

BYU completely turned around in the second game sending the Aggies home with another loss to the Cougars. Freshman Daniella Urincho pitched the entire game letting only three hits against her. Debbie Dodds, Lauren Watson-Perry, Ariel Capra, Paige Paramore and Urincho scored for BYU in the fifth inning giving the Cougars a 5-0 advantage.

"Everything came back together in the second game," Eakin said. "We learned from the first game and won't make the same mistake in conference play this weekend."

BYU will stay on the road as they face MountainWest Conference opponents New Mexico April 28 and Colorado State April 30.
