Cougars Finish Weekend 4-1
PROVO -- BYU found the Palm Springs Classic to be very favorable as they finished the weekend with a 4-1 record after defeating Long Island 4-2 and Oklahoma State 6-4 Saturday in Palm Springs, Calif.
BYU bounced back Saturday after a tough loss to Texas the night before, to claim a victory over Long Island in the early game. The Cougars scored early with one run in the first inning and never trailed scoring four runs on five hits. Senior Lauren Watson-Perry went 1-for-4 and hit her sixth home run of the season. Sophomore Jennifer Whiteley went 2-for-3 keeping the bats moving.
Freshman Daniella Urincho started on the mound for BYU pitching five innings striking out three batters and was credited with the win.
Against Oklahoma State, the Cowgirls took a 2-1 lead through three innings. However, a big fourth inning for BYU that included a home run by junior Neta Le'I, put the Cougars ahead 6-2. The inning provided plenty of padding when Oklahoma State made a push in the fifth inning scoring two. Junior Summer Tobias pitched a strong game pitching 4.2 innings with six strikeouts and credited with the win.
BYU's record improves to 11-1 overall as the Cougars have almost two weeks before their next game when they head to Tampa, Fla., to take on opponents that include UIC, Buffalo, UMass, Jacksonville Univ., and Sacramento State.
