PROVO -- BYU defeated Drexel University 6-2 in the Commercial Capital Classic during a soggy Friday in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Behind consistent pitching by junior Summer Tobias, BYU held Drexel scoreless giving up no hits and three walks in six innings for her fourth victory of the season. Junior, Brooke Boyce pitched in relief for the final inning giving up no hits. Drexel's two runs came because of some rough fielding conditions due to the rain.

Offensively, the Cougars jumped out strong in the first inning taking a 3-0 lead. BYU added two more runs in the third and another in the fourth taking a 6-0 advantage.

With the game under control, BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said he was able to get everybody into the action.

"We didn't play our best today," Eakin said. But we were able to play everybody and develop our talent, however we did play well and we battled. I was happy to see that."

Senior, Lauren Watson-Perry went 2-for-3 from the plate scoring two runs. Junior, Paige Paramore went a perfect 2-for-2, two RBI, and junior, Ashlyn Russell also went 2-for-2 with a home run. It was Russell's fifth home run of the season.

Feb. 19 games have been rescheduled due to excessive rain. Games will only be played at the new UCSB Diamond Field. The Cougars are now scheduled to play UC Santa Barbara at 8:00 a.m and Southwest Missouri State at 10:00 a.m.
