Utah State Comes to Town
PROVO -- The BYU softball team will host a doubleheader against Utah State on Tuesday, April 13 starting at 3 p.m. at Gail Miller Field.
The Cougars are posting a 21-12, 3-3 record, while the Aggies are 7-27, 3-3.
BYU is coming off a split with instate rival Utah on Saturday, April 10. The Cougars won the first game 5-4 and were defeated in game two by the Utes in a close 9-8 battle.
In the doubleheader against Utah, BYU first baseman Ianeta Le`i led BYU hitting .800 (4-5), recording one double, scoring five runs, hitting a two-run home run, and defensively registering 21 putouts. Le`i currently leads BYU in batting average with a .354 and is on an eight-game hitting streak. For the pitching staff, Niki Andersen (12-4) picked up the win in game one and Brooke Boyce got the save, while Ariel Capra (3-3) received the loss in game two.
The Cougars are batting .298 as a team and the pitching staff is posting a 3.31 overall ERA.
The Aggies come to Provo riding a five-game losing streak. Three of the five losses came from top-25 Long Beach State (0-5, 0-4, 0-16). The team comes into this week with an overall batting average of .212.
Leading Utah State offensively is Haven Vance (.293) and Jessica Garnett (.292). Vance has six doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI on the year. For the pitching staff, Leslie Higley leads with a 4.90 ERA and a 5-12 record. The overall ERA of the squad is 6.30.
After playing at home, BYU will hit the road for their first two away conference doubleheaders. BYU will face Colorado State at 1 p.m. on Thursday, and New Mexico at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
