Oregon State Defeats Cougars 7-0
HONOLULU -- In game two of the Paradise Classic, Oregon State defeated BYU 7-0. The Cougars drop to 0-2, while the Beavers increase to a 5-1 start and increase to a 5-1 all-time record against BYU.
BYU got down early in the first inning as OSU converted five hits into five runs to give them the 5-0 lead. The Beavers scored two more runs in the game, one in the top of the second inning and one in top of the fourth (7-0).
OSU's Monica Hoffman (4-0) picked up the win pitching six innings and striking out nine of 19 batters faced. Junior Niki Andersen (0-1) picked up the loss on for BYU.
BYU sophomore Paige Paramore and freshman Krystle Chamberlain provided the only two hits for the Cougars, both singles in the bottom of the seventh inning.
OSU is a quality program and received 23 votes in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Preseason Division I Top 25 Poll. The Beavers also received a No. 23 ranking by ESPN.com/USA Softball Preseason Top 25 Collegiate Poll.
The Cougars will battle the Lady Vols of Tennessee Friday at 10 a.m. (HT), 1 p.m. (MT) at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium at the University of Hawai`i.
