Home Opener Friday and Saturday Against Utah State

PROVO -- After 19 games on the road, the BYU women's softball team (12-7) will open home play this weekend against in-state foe Utah State. The Cougars will play a double-header against the Aggies on Friday starting at 1 p.m. and will play a single game again at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Riding a three game win streak, the Cougars look to keep their slate clean against the Aggies. Since the team was sanctioned by the University, BYU is a perfect 10-0 against their counterparts from Logan including a perfect 5-0 last season.

Live stats will be available for the game on the softball page at www.byucougars.com under the 2003 schedule. Family admission for the games is 10 dollars while students get in free with their All-sports card.

LAST WEEKEND

Playing in a tournament hosted by Fresno State, BYU got off to a rocky 0-3 start playing against host Fresno State, No. 1 UCLA and No. 15 DePaul. The Cougars hadn't played in two weeks because the Red Desert Classic hosted by the University of Utah in St. George had been cancelled completely due to inclement weather. BYU responded to the tough challenge and defeated Cal-Poly, St. John's and avenged a loss to Fresno State behind two home runs by All-American Oli Keohohou, including the game-winner with two out in the bottom of the seventh innings to seal a 6-4 win in front of a sell-out crowd.

NOTES:

Two-time First-team All-American Oli Keohohou leads the team in batting average (.377), hits (20), home runs (6), RBI (16) and slugging percentage (.812). Junior Kate Walker leads the team in doubles with four. Four players on the Cougar roster post an on base percentage of over .400 (Keohohou, Debbie Dodds, Brooke Cadiente, and Linsey Gerhauser). Cadiente is second on the team with home runs (5) and runs scored (14).
