Softball Team to Host Picnic in the Park

PROVO -- The new BYU Division I softball team will host a "Fast Pitch Picnic in the Park" on Friday, Oct. 8 at the south field by BYU's football stadium.

The "Fast Pitch Picnic in the Park" is an opportunity for the public to become familiar with the BYU women's softball team in its inaugural season as a Division I team. This free event will include base running contests, speed throw, home run derby and a celebrity softball game. Dinner will be provided by Wallaby's Restaurant at a cost of $5 per person, with proceeds going to benefit the BYU softball team.

Local media representatives will be on hand for the celebrity fast-pitch softball game against the BYU team. Daily Herald sports editor Tad Walch will be accompanied by reporters Scott Bell and Scott Tittrinton. Also participating will be Jeff Call of the Deseret News, Gordon Monson from the Salt Lake Tribune, Tom Kirkland of KSL-TV, Channel 4's Wes Ruff, and BYU athletic director Val Hale.

Hale will be joined by new BYU baseball coach Vance Law and former BYU star Corey Snyder in the home run derby contest.

The event will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the field just south of the BYU football stadium. All are welcome to bring their blankets and enjoy an afternoon of softball with BYU.
