BYU Softball Team Announces Recruits

PROVO -- Just months away from its inaugural season as an NCAA team, the BYU women's softball team announced its early recruits for the 2000-2001 season Thursday.

At the top of the list is pitcher/outfielder Ariel Capra, a native of Kingwood, Tex. Capra is a leftie with a .397 high school batting average who is listed in the Who's Who Among High School Athletes and was invited to the Junior National Team tryouts. Capra was named to the All-Greater Houston team in both 1998 and 1999 as an outfielder, as well as being named All-District for her pitching skills in '98 and '99. Capra will be featured in a story about college recruits in next month's Texas Fast-Pitch Softball Magazine.

West Jordan's Katie Feroah has also committed to BYU next season. Feroah is a senior at Copper Hills High School and is a switch-hitter and two-time All-State and MVP selection. Of particular strength is Feroah's defensive versatility; she plays the infield positions of shortstop and third base as well as putting in time behind the plate as a catcher. Feroah looked at Utah, Purdue, Georgia and national powerhouse Arizona State before settling on BYU.

The third recruit for the Cougars is Laura Holland, who hails from Moreno Valley, Calif. Holland throws right, but bats left for a .350 average. Holland plays the middle infield positions as well as center field and was a California Scholastic Federation Scholar Athlete.
