Cougars Shut Out in Two by Second-Ranked Arizona

TUCSON -- Facing its fourth top-15 opponent in a month, BYU's softball team fell to second-ranked Arizona, 2-0 and 10-0, Saturday afternoon in Tucson.

Arizona transfer Meghann Pricer, facing her former team for the first time, kept the Cougars in the game with a three-hit effort. Pricer (4-4) allowed just one earned run, but wasn't the beneficiary of any offensive support as Wildcat Becky Lemke pitched a no-hitter for the win. Lemke (15-1) struck out 19 and walked none to lead the Wildcats to the 2-0 win.

The Cougars were also shut out in the second game, 10-0. The Wildcat offense exploded against BYU pitcher Maryon Dewitt (3-3), teeing off for 11 hits in four innings to end the game early. Arizona hit two home runs, shots by catcher Lindsey Collins and pitcher Jennie Finch, to cap the offensive assault. BYU managed two hits off Finch in the loss, a double by Liz Smith and single by Becca Erickson.

BYU remains winless against ranked opponents (0-5) and dropped to 7-8 overall. Arizona improved to 27-1 with the victories. The Cougars have a week off before resuming play in California, taking on Santa Clara and Fresno State, currently ranked seventh in the USA Today/NFCA Poll.
