San Diego State Completes Season Sweep of BYU

PROVO -- Playing in the second half of conference competition, the BYU softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to San Diego State, 6-1 and 3-2, Friday in Provo.

The Cougars came into the games against the Aztecs in search of its first home wins ever, but came up short. In the first game, the Aztecs exploded for five runs in the fifth inning to knock Meghann Pricer out of the game and coast to the 6-1 win. First baseman Mindy Hanson went a perfect 3-for-3 in the losing effort and was responsible for the team's sole RBI.

The second game seemed strangely familiar, as the Cougars found themselves in extra innings for the second consecutive weekend. The Aztecs jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the second inning, but the Cougars responded with a pair of their own two innings later off shortstop Becca Erickson's two-RBI single. The teams then went scoreless for four straight innings until San Diego State bunted its way on in the top of the ninth and brought the run in.

San Diego State, tied with Utah for second in the Mountain West Conference headed into the weekend, improved to 27-21, 9-3 MWC. The Aztecs will face off against the Utes this weekend. BYU fell to 10-21, 2-10 MWC and will engage in a showdown of its own Saturday against UNLV (15-31, 1-9 MWC) to avoid falling into last place in the conference.
