Cougars Face Toughest Competition at UNLV Classic
PROVO, Utah (February, 13, 2002) - The BYU women's softball team (3-1) will travel to Las Vegas this weekend in the UNLV Classic to face its toughest competition of the season. On Friday, the Cougars will play No. 18 Oregon State at 10:00 a.m. and them No. 5 Cal-Berkeley at 12:30 p.m. On Saturday BYU will face No. 2 UCLA at 10:00 a.m. and No. 12 Nebraska at 3:00 p.m.
The Cougars handed Oregon State (8-1) their only loss of the season when they faced each other two weeks ago, 4-1. All-American Oli Keohohou led the way to the upset with a two-run home run.
"We're excited to play these calibur of teams," said head coach Mary Kay Amicone. "Playing Top 20 teams is a good challege and measuring stick for our program this early in the season."
The Cougars will remain on the road during the Olympic break with a game against Loyola-Marymount on Feb. 20 and then the UC Santa Barbara Tournament Feb. 22-23.
