BYU Upsets No. 12 Nebraska, Loses to No. 2 UCLA

LAS VEGAS -- The BYU women's softball team upset No. 12 Nebraska 9-7, and loss to No. 2 UCLA 10-2, Friday at the UNLV Classic. The Cougars are now 4-4, 0-0 on the season.

In the first game against No. 2 UCLA, freshman Katy Barnes (0-1) pitched her first collegiate game against a strong Bruins squad. Brooke Cadiente provided a two-run home run for the Cougar's offense, her second of the season.

In their final game of the UNLV Classic, the Cougars upset No. 12 Nebraska 9-7. The win was the first in school history against the Cornhuskers. All-American Oli Keohohou hit her fourth home run of the season. She was also intentionally walked twice. Cadiente, last season's MWC Tournament MVP, hit her second home run of the day, a grand slam. Kate Walker also hit a home run to finish off the scoring for the day. All of the Cougar runs scored in the four-game tournament came from home runs. Cynthia Fallowfield (3-1) picked up the win while striking out four.

The Cougars continue on the road with games at Loyola-Marymount on Wednesday in Los Angeles and Thursday at UC Santa Barbara, before playing in the UC Santa Barbara Tournament this weekend.
