BYU Dominates Providence, Santa Clara

SANTA BARBARA -- The BYU women's softball team ended their two week road trip with convincing wins over Providence 12-2, and Santa Clara 12-0 at the "Softball By the Beach" Invitational hosted by UC Santa Barbara, Saturday. The wins improve the Cougars to 7-8, 0-0 for the season.

In the first game of the morning, the Cougars came out strong as Liz VanderLinden scored in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. The Cougars never looked back and won decisively 12-2 in six innings. Brooke Cadiente hit 3-3, including home run and finished the contest with four RBI. All-American Oli Keohohou hit 2-2 with one home run and one RBI. Liz Boydston went 1-3 with a hone run and two RBI. Ariel Capra (3-1) picked up the winning allowing only four hits and two runs in six innings.

In their last game of the tournament, it only took five innings for the Cougars to squash Santa Clara 12-0. Keohohou, a sophomore, went 2-4 with three RBI. Kari Pringle hit 2-2 with two RBI. Cadiente, a junior, hit perfectly 3-3 and scored twice. VanderLinden batted in three runs in three at bats. Surprisingly, the Cougars didn't hit any home runs while tying a season high with 12 runs. Cynthia Fallowfield (4-3) allowed only four hits and no runs in the win.

Up next for the Cougars is the annual Utah Tournament in St. George, March 1-2. The Cougars will face PAC-10 foes Washington and Oregon along with Santa Barbara and in-state rival Utah State.
