Ava, Agbayani named to NFCA All-Pacific Region Third Team

Huntyr Ava and Ailana Agbayani named to the 2023 NFCA All-Pacific Region Third Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — BYU softball's Huntyr Ava and Ailana Agabayani were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Pacific Region Third Team, the organization announced on Thursday.

The Cougars have been represented on the NFCA's All-Region team in nine-consecutive seasons dating back to 2014. This is Ava's second time receiving the honor after earning All-Pacific Region First Team honors last season.

Ava finished the regular season with a team-high .350 batting average and .767 slugging percentage. She also led both the team and the conference with 46 RBI and 14 home runs. The first baseman from Rosepark, Utah ranked No. 9 in the nation averaging 1.15 RBI per game and No. 14 with 0.35 home runs per game. Ava was also named the WCC Player of the Year and to the All-WCC Team.

Agbayani led the team with 161 at-bats, 53 hits and 12 stolen bases. She also had the team's second-best batting average (.329) and second-most runs scored (34). Hailing from Mililani Mauka, Hawai'i, the shortstop recorded a .952 fielding percentage, and pitched 31 2/3 innings in the circle for the Cougars, posting a 2.21 ERA with five wins and 26 strikeouts. Agbayani was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-WCC First Team as well.
