Chavez named WCC Player of the Week
MURRIETA, Calif. — BYU softball senior Marissa Chavez is the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Chavez led the conference with a .643 batting average last week. She also racked up four doubles, four runs, nine hits and eight RBI.
On Friday, Chavez earned a career-high of six RBI in the first game of the series against Santa Clara. The Cougars defeated the Broncos 20-1 and broke a 14-year-old program record with 13 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, where Chavez had a three-run home run.
This is the first POW honor of Chavez's career. It is also BYU's seventh overall honor this season, with outfielder Violet Zavodnik, pitcher Chloe Temples (2), outfielder Taylei Williams and pitcher Autumn Moffat-Korth (2) previously winning.
