Violet Zavodnik named to U-18 JWNT

OKLAHOMA CITY — BYU softball freshman center fielder Violet Zavodnik was named to the 2021 USA Softball U-18 Junior Women’s National Team (JWNT) roster, the team announced Friday.

The JWNT will compete at World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 World Cup in Lima, Peru from Aug. 28 - Sept. 5, and the Junior Pan American Games in Barranquilla, Columbia from Nov. 25 – Dec. 5.

The World Cup was previously scheduled to be held in August 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the event being rescheduled to this year, the WBSC extended the age eligibility to allow athletes who were eligible last year to still participate this year.

Zavodnik led the Cougars with a .416 batting average. She tallied 64 hits, 48 RBI and scored 44 runs, and recorded a .953 fielding percentage. Zavodnik also hit 14 home runs and had a slugging percentage of .818 with a .516 on-base percentage.
