Moffat-Korth, Zavodnik claim WCC Pitcher and Player of the Week awards

SAN MATEO, Calif. — Coming off a series win at Loyola Marymount, Autumn Moffat-Korth and Violet Zavodnik swept the West Coast Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week awards, the conference announced Monday.

Moffat-Korth pitched in two complete games last week, winning both, while posting an ERA of 0.54. In 13.0 innings pitched, Moffat-Korth allowed 12 hits but just one earned run. She struck out seven and walked one batter. Of the 12 hits allowed, only one was an extra-base hit. After last week’s outings, Moffat-Korth continues to lead the conference in ERA, runs allowed, walks allowed and doubles allowed.

Zavodnik finished the week with five hits for a batting average of .385. All of Zavodnik’s hits were extra base hits, including two home runs and a pair of doubles. She finished the four-game week with a slugging percentage of 1.154 and brought in five runs while also scoring five runs herself.  In game two of a doubleheader against LMU on Saturday, Zavodnik nearly hit through the cycle, finishing with a double, triple and home run. The homer was a three-run shot that would end up being enough to end the game after six innings.

This Cougars have now claimed 12 of the 22 WCC weekly awards this season. Moffat-Korth has won Pitcher of the Week back-to-back weeks and four times in total, while Zavodnik picked up Player of the Week for the second time this year. Other Cougars who have won weekly awards this season include Rylee Jensen, Alyssa Podhurcak, Arissa Paulson, HannahJo Peterson and Martha Epenesa.
