SAN MARCOS, Texas – Huntyr Ava’s two-homer inning helped BYU softball to an 11-2 win over UTSA on Friday afternoon.

"Scoring 10 runs with two outs was pretty impressive," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "We got a little momentum and could not be stopped."

Game Highlights:

  • For the second time this week, BYU scored 10 runs in one inning.
  • Huntyr Ava hit two balls over the fence during the game both in the same inning. It was the second time in her career that she accomplished such a feat after hitting two last season against Illinois.

Player Highlights:

  • Huntyr Ava: 2-2, 2R, 4 RBI, 2HR, BB
  • Alyssa Podhurcak: 3-3, R, 2 2B
  • Carley Brown: (W, 1-1), 2.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 4K

UTSA made its mark first, putting up two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but BYU would silence the Roadrunners for the rest of the game.

With two outs in the top of the fourth inning, Ava broke the game open hitting her first homer of the evening. Nine more Cougars made it home in the inning, on two outs, including Ava who closed the inning with her second dinger to make the score 10-2.

In the top of the fifth, Brown hit a sacrifice fly bringing in Mallory Barber to put the game away for BYU. At an 11-2 score, Brown went three up, three down in the bottom of the fifth and the Cougars took the win.

The Cougars will now travel to Austin, Texas for a doubleheader first against No. 10/11 Texas at 11:30 a.m. followed by a game against Tarleton State at 1:30 p.m. CT. Both games will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network with the game against the Texans on tape delay until 5:30 p.m. CT.
