Jensen and Vander Heide named to WCC All-Academic team

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Junior softball players Rylee Jensen and Brooke Vander Heide have been named to the West Coast Conference Softball All-Academic team, the conference announced Friday.

Jensen and Vander Heide represent BYU after earning a cumulative 3.20 GPA or higher as well as being significant contributors to the team.

Jensen has proved to be a powerhouse for BYU this season. In conference games she leads the league in runs (12), home runs (3), total bases (34) and is No. 2 with a .463 batting average. The left-fielder has started 48 games this season and has been named NFCA National Player of the Week once and WCC Player of the Week five times. Jensen is studying exercise and wellness.

A center fielder from Sandy, Utah, Vander Heide has given the Cougars a spark in many games while also holding a perfect fielding percentage this season. She hit her first season triple against Florida Gulf Coast tallying two RBI to give BYU a 2-0 win. Against No. 2 UCLA, the junior batted in a run to tie the game in the fourth inning. Vander Heide is studying communications.

Three other Cougars were award honorable mention including Emilee Erickson, Erin Miklus and Libby Sugg.
