BYU sweeps WCC weekly awards for second time
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – For the second time this season, BYU softball players swept the weekly West Coast Conference awards with Libby Sugg taking Player of the Week and Arissa Paulson earning Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Sugg led BYU to two wins against Utah Valley early in the week, batting .691 between the two games with three runs, four RBI, a homerun and a double in both games. During the weekend, she went 3 for 4 at the plate with one RBI in the first game against UTSA and nailed her second homer of the week against Texas A&M. Through six games, Sugg batted .500 totaling 10 hits, four runs with two extra base hits and drove in six runs.
Paulson recorded two wins during the week, including a 6-0 shutout against UTSA. The sophomore pitcher started three games totaling 12 strikeouts allowing only three earned runs, 10 hits and four walks through 17 total innings.
This is both Sugg and Paulson's first weekly award this season and BYU's seventh award. Rylee Jensen has earned Player of the Week three times, while Autumn Moffat and Kerisa Viramontes have each received Pitcher of the Week once this season.
