PROVO, Utah – BYU head softball coach Gordon Eakin named seniors Libby Sugg and Allie Hancock as captains for the 2019 season.

“Both Libby and Allie encompass the traits that we want to develop and excel in as a program,” Eakin said. “They are hard-working, great teammates, have integrity and are great leaders. They do a fantastic job and we couldn’t be happier to have them as captains.”

Sugg was named to the 2018 NFCA All-America Third Team. Also a West Coast Conference First Team and WCC All-Academic Team honoree, the Tennessee native is making waves through the BYU career record book, currently at No. 2 in on-base percentage (.455), No. 3 in slugging percentage (.700), No. 5 in RBI (181), No. 6 in home runs (42), No. 7 in batting average (.362) and No. 10 in doubles (35).

Hancock, a senior from Gilbert, Arizona, played in 49 games last season and started 24. She blasted three home runs last year, including a two-run homer against Stanford. She also earned WCC Commissioner’s Bronze Honor Roll at the end of the 2018 season.

The Cougars begin their 2019 slate on Feb. 7 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, against South Carolina.
