PROVO, Utah – Led by Alexa Strid’s 4 for 4 performance, BYU softball defeated Salt Lake Community College 11-0 at Gail Miller Field on Friday night.

The teams played eight innings in order to allow multiple pitchers adequate playing time.

The Cougars’ highest scoring outputs came in the second and seventh innings. In the bottom of the second, RBI from Strid, Caitlyn Larsen Alldredge and Rylee Jensen gave BYU the early 3-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Cougars got seven runs across home plate to push the lead to 11-0. Three of those runs came from Strid’s home run on the first pitch she saw.

McKenna Bull and Kerisa Viramontes led the pitching staff with five strikeouts each. BYU switched pitchers every two innings, allowing four pitchers to get two frames apiece. The tough pitching from the circle allowed just two hits in the eight-inning game.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday in a doubleheader against Boise State starting at 12:30 p.m. MDT. The game is free to the public.
