Bull receives WCC Pitcher of the Week honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Following an impressive performance at the DeMarini Classic last weekend, junior McKenna Bull was named West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

In the DeMarini Classic over the weekend, Bull totaled 35 strikeouts in four games played. She had nine in the wins over Hawai’i and Grand Canyon and also in the loss to Colorado State. In the win over Robert Morris, she had eight strikeouts, including zero walks. Over the weekend, she allowed just nine total walks. Bull also completed a 4-0 shutout over Grand Canyon.

Bull came out of the tournament with three wins, adding to her 5-2 record on the season. She has already tallied 62 total strikeouts in 2016 with just 16 walks with a 1.87 ERA. After this weekend, she passed Tori Almond for number of career strikeouts. Bull is now tied with Christie Zinanti for second place with 524. She also moved into a tie for third place with Summer Tobias in total career shutouts with 13.

This honor is Bull’s first of the season and seventh of her career. She is also the reigning 2015 WCC Pitcher of the Year. Pacific’s Rachel Stellers was named this week’s WCC Player of the Week.

BYU heads to California this weekend to participate in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic II from Feb. 25-27.
