PROVO, Utah–The BYU softball team capped another stretch of fall preseason, wrapping up its home slate with two wins over Utah Valley.

“We have a lot of work to do. In a weekend like this, it’s hard to gain momentum because we tried to play everybody,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said in reference to the three games played Oct. 10-11. “We did an excellent job with pitching for the most part, except for UVU’s explosion in (Saturday's) game, we were pretty solid in pitching and in defense. It was good where we did get everybody in the game that they could mount a comeback like that.”

Saturday, the Cougars were down 5-1 to the Wolverines after five and a half innings, heading into the bottom of the sixth. Sydney Broderick and Alexa Strid each hit solo homers in the inning, helping the team close the gap to 5-3. BYU then held Utah Valley scoreless in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Lacey Millett Hofstedt scored on a fielder's choice to make the score 5-4. The Cougars then struck in dramatic fashion as Broderick ended the game with a two-run walk-off double, clinching the 6-5 win. The team then beat Utah Valley 6-3 on Tuesday as well.

Earlier in the day Saturday, BYU also beat Southern Utah 2-1 behind solid pitching from McKenna Bull. The Cougars were victorious over Snow College on Friday and Salt Lake Community College on Oct. 7.

The team wraps up the fall season with a doubleheader at UNLV Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
