BYU softball headed to Seattle

PROVO, Utah – BYU softball takes a 15-game winning streak to Seattle in its 10th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance.

“We’re excited to go to the Washington Regional,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. “We were there three years ago and they run a fabulous regional. It’s exciting to be in the NCAA tournament and we look forward to the competition.”

The Cougars took part in the Seattle Regional in 2011, making it to the championship game, but could not overcome host Washington.

BYU (33-21, 12-2 WCC) will open up tournament play in the first game Thursday against Northwestern (33-18, 14-9 Big Ten). The two teams met up last season in the Mary Nutter Classic in a game that was tied going into the seventh inning. The Wildcats were able to score three unearned runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead and the victory.

No. 12 overall seed Washington (33-13, 13-9 PAC 12) will face Iona (24-22, 14-6 MAAC) in the nightcap on Thursday. Game times will be announced later.
