Broderick wins second straight WCC Player of the Week
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Freshman catcher Sydney Broderick was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for the second week in a row.
Broderick came through in the clutch when the Cougars needed it and joins teammate Katie Manuma as the only player to receive two WCC weekly honors this season. Broderick recorded a walk-off bunt single on Tuesday against Utah State and then tallied the go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the seventh in the series finale at San Diego.
She finished the week with a .500 batting average, two doubles, two home runs and six RBI. In the second game of the series against San Diego, Broderick helped BYU get on the board for the first time in the series with a double to right field. She drew a walk in the seventh to load the bases and allow the sacrifice fly opportunity that proved to be the difference in the game.
Senior pitcher Cassidy Coleman of San Diego was named the WCC Pitcher of the Week after throwing the third no-hitter in the Torero’s softball history.
BYU returns to the field tomorrow to face in-state rival Utah Valley at 3 p.m. MDT in Orem, Utah. You can listen to the game on BYU Radio.
