LOS ANGELES  — After a careful review of the final minutes of the match between BYU and UCLA on Friday, April 6, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation ruled that the end of game five would be replayed prior to the beginning of the second match on Saturday evening.

It was determined that Friday’s match would resume with the score tied at 16 and UCLA serving. BYU sophomore Taylor Sander received the UCLA serve and then finished off a return set from Joe Kauliakamoa for a 17-16 BYU lead. The Cougars then ended the match on a three-man block in the middle to give BYU an 18-16 victory. The win gave the Cougars a 21-5, 17-4 record heading into the final match of the UCLA series.

In the second match of the weekend series, No. 4 BYU fell in three sets (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) to No. 3 UCLA on the road.

Senior Robb Stowell was the only Cougar to record double-digit kills on Saturday against the Bruins with 11. Sander contributed seven and Futi Tavana had four. As a team, the Cougars hit just .095 on the night.

UCLA took a 10-8 lead early in the first set and would continue to steal the show from there. The scoring was back-and-forth for the most part but the lead stayed with the Bruins throughout the set, eventually taking a 25-17 victory.

The second and third sets were a similar story with the Bruins making enough small runs throughout each set to maintain a constant lead. UCLA took the second set, 25-19, and third set, 25-17, for the sweep.

BYU returns home next weekend for its final two matches of the regular season against Penn State on April 13 and 14. Both matches will be broadcast live on BYUtv.
