Sander Leads MPSF Postseason Honors

PROVO, Utah -- The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation has announced four BYU men's volleyball players as a part of the 2011 All-MPSF Men's Volleyball selections with Taylor Sander's Freshman of the Year leading the way.

Sander was named Freshman of the Year and was also included on the All-MPSF First Team and All-MPSF Freshman Team. Juniors Futi Tavana and Robb Stowell were named to the All-MPSF First Team and setter Joe Kauliakamoa received ALl-MSPF Honorable Mention honors.

In his first season at BYU, Sander has earned a starting spot in 22 of BYU’s 25 matches this season while totaling 326 kills, a team-leading 40 service aces, 115 digs, 65 blocks and a .348 attacking percentage. He has recorded double-digit kills in 19 of the 25 matches this season with his first career double-double coming on April 9 against Pepperdine in 19 kills and 10 digs. He’s currently ranked second in the MPSF and fifth in the NCAA in aces per set (0.45 A/S), 12th in NCAA season hitting percentage (.348), and 22nd in NCAA kills per set (3.66 K/S).

Tavana and Stowell combine for almost half of the team's total kills with 619. Tavana's .446 hitting percentage and 151 blocks lead the team, and Stowell's 149 digs are also team-leading. Last season, Stowell received All-MPSF Third Team honors and an Honorable Mention honor his freshman season. Tavana was named to the All-MPSF Second Team in his freshman and sophomore years.

Kauliakamoa currently leads the team with 918 assists on the season for an average of 10.31 per set to rank him at 15th in the NCAA Division I for total assists per set.
