Cougars Finish at No. 2 In Final Poll

PROVO -- Despite not being invited to the NCAA Tournament, the BYU men’s volleyball team finished its season with a No. 2 national ranking in the AVCA Division I-II Men’s Coaches Top 15 Final Poll.

The Cougars finished the season with an overall record of 22-9 and 15-7 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Against ranked opponents, BYU finished with a 17-9 record.

Senior outside hitter Andrew Stewart and sophomore middle blocker Futi Tavana earned All-America honors while Stewart, Tavana, Robb Stowell, Reed Chilton and Russell Lavaja were named to the All-MPSF team.

The Cougars won the quarterfinal match at the MPSF tournament against UCLA, eventually falling to Cal State Northridge in the semifinals of the tournament, the Matadors earning the at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, along with the Stanford Cardinal.

Stanford finished the season ranked No. 1 for the last five weeks of the season, eventually defeating No. 5 Penn State for the National Championship. The Cardinal earned all 16 first-place votes for the final poll.
