Perfect Record Vaults Cougars to No. 4 Ranking

PROVO -- After traveling to Southern California and knocking off sixth-ranked USC and 11th-ranked Cal State Northridge in a pair of three-game matches last week, the BYU men's volleyball team climbed from its eight-place ranking to No. 4 in this week's USAToday/AVCA Coaches Top-15 poll. BYU, now a perfect 5-0, remains just one of two undefeated teams in the top-15. Top-ranked Stanford is 6-0, while No. 2 UCLA is 5-3 on the season and third-ranked Long Beach State has posted a 5-1 mark.

With a wins over the Trojans and Matadors, BYU improved to 3-0 in league play, taking over the lead in the Mountain Pacific Sport Federation's Mountain Division.

The Cougars return to Provo this week, taking on MPSF foe UC San Diego on Friday and Saturday in the Smith Fieldhouse. Both matches are slated to begin at 7 p.m. (MST). UC San Diego has posted a 1-5 mark on the season and will be looking for its first road-win of the year. The Cougars have registered an 8-0 mark against the Tritons, dating back to the 1993 season. BYU is 4-0 at home and 4-0 in San Diego against UCSD. In the eight previous meetings, BYU has won seven straight matches in three straight games. On the season, the Cougars have won four of its five matches in three straight games.
