No. 6 BYU to host No. 8 Stanford in final two matches of the regular season
PROVO, Utah — No. 6 BYU men’s volleyball returns to the Smith Fieldhouse after a bye week to face MPSF opponent No. 8 Stanford for its final two matches of the regular season.
Stanford (13-10) is currently on a four-game winning streak, most recently upsetting the No. 6 Lopes in back-to-back wins at home. Stanford’s two wins over GCU moved the Cardinal into a tie for second place in the MPSF with BYU. The Cardinal are led by senior libero Justin Lui and senior outside hitter Will Rotman. Lui is the MPSF dig leader, averaging 2.16 digs per set. Rotman is a first team All-American with 252 kills this year.
If BYU (16-6) wins both matches this weekend, the Cougars will secure the No. 2 seed in the MPSF tournament, which will be held at Stanford University from April 19-22.
BYU moved up to No. 6 in this week’s AVCA coaches poll, its eleventh week in a row on the rankings. Last season, BYU’s highest ranking at any point was eight.
The Cougars will be honoring seniors Heath Hughes and Mitchel Worthington on Saturday evening, with a celebration ceremony concluding the match.
