PROVO, Utah — BYU men's volleyball sophomores Teon Taylor and Miks Ramanis swept this week's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's volleyball awards announced Monday evening, with Taylor as Defensive Player of the Week and Ramanis as Offensive Player of the Week.
Taylor led the Cougars with 17 blocks in the two-match series win over No. 7 Pepperdine. Taylor, the MPSF blocks leader this season, averaged 1.70 blocks per set while playing in all ten of BYU's sets last week. He led all players with nine blocks in the second win, holding the Waves to a season-low hitting percentage of .218. For his performance, Taylor was also named the Off the Block National Middle Attacker of the Week.
Sophomore outside hitter Ramanis led BYU's offense against the Waves with 34 total kills. He averaged 3.40 kills per set and had a .357 hitting percentage through 10 sets. In Saturday’s match, Ramanis led all players with 16 kills. Ramanis also added three service aces along with 17 digs last weekend.
These are BYU's third and fourth MPSF weekly honors in 2023 and Ramanis's first recognition of his career.
