Gabi Garcia Fernandez Repeats as MPSF Offensive Player of the Week
PROVO, Utah — Gabi Garcia Fernandez has been named MPSF Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row.
This is the seventh weekly MPSF award for Fernandez and his second in the 2021 season.
On Friday, Feb. 12 senior opposite Gabi Garcia Fernandez, hit a career-high and errorless .833 (15-0-18). This was his second straight match without an error and his second straight match achieving a career-high hitting percentage. His .833 is a new MPSF season high. This achievement helped the Cougars take down No. 7 Pepperdine in three sets. In Saturday's match, Fernandez had16 kills and served three aces in BYU's three to one set win.
Cole Paxson of USC was named the MPSF Defensive Player of the Week.
Gabi Garcia Fernandez and the Cougars will look to hold on to their No. 1 ranking this weekend against No. 10 Grand Canyon at home in the Smith Fieldhouse.
