LEXINGTON, Ky. — BYU Men’s Volleyball (3-1) has been voted the number one team in the country in this week’s NVA/ AVCA Coaches Poll. This is the fourth week in a row BYU has claimed the top spot.

BYU received 12 out of 16 first-place votes, with Hawaii taking the remaining four. UC Santa Barbara came in third place with Lewis (6-1) and Long Beach State rounding out the top five. No. 14 McKendree (5-0) and No. 15 NJIT (3-3),  both entered the rankings for the first time in their program's histories.

This poll follows a huge week by BYU, who took down No. 6 Pepperdine twice in the Smith Fieldhouse. Friday, Feb. 12th, BYU won the first set 25-6 in one of the largest margins of victory for BYU in the rally-scoring era; the team would go on to sweep Pepperdine 3-0. Saturday’s sets were much closer, but the Cougars pulled through for the 3-1 win.

BYU will begin a four game series with No. 10 Grand Canyon (1-1)  this week. Feb. 18th and 20th will be played in Provo, followed by two games in Phoenix, Feb. 25th and 27th. The Lopes have played twice this season, losing to UCLA then sweeping Concordia Irvine. GCU’s matches that were scheduled for Feb. 12th and 13th were postponed due to Covid-19 protocols.
