Gabi Garcia Fernandez Named MPSF Offensive Player of the Week

PROVO, Utah — Gabi Garcia Fernandez has been named MPSF Offensive Player of the Week. 

This is the sixth weekly MPSF award for Fernandez and his first in the 2021 season.

In the season opener Feb. 4 against UCLA, Fernandez hit a match-high 16 kills and scored a match-high 17.5 points. He also recorded eight digs and three block assists. Fernandez hit a career-high and errorless .800 (12-0-5) and served two aces in the Feb. 8 sweep of No. 8 UCLA. This hitting percentage is the current MPSF season-best. 

UCLA's Ethan Champlin was named the MPSF Defensive Player of the Week. 

Fernandez and the Cougars will look to hold on to their No. 1 ranking this weekend against No. 7 Pepperdine at home in the Smith Fieldhouse.
