PROVO, Utah BYU men's volleyball remained atop the NVA/AVCA Division I/II Men’s Volleyball Coaches Poll when the association released its first rankings of the season on Monday, Jan. 25.

The 2021 volleyball season has officially begun with the BYU Cougars listed as the No. 1 team in the country. The Cougars were previously the top-ranked team in the 2021 preseason poll released on Jan. 4.

Although BYU will not play an official game until Feb. 4, the Cougars received 14 first-place votes in this week's poll. The top three spots in the rankings remain the same as the preseason poll, with BYU followed by Hawai'i and UC Santa Barbara.

Lewis and Long Beach State are tied for fourth place to round out the top five.

BYU opens the season on Feb. 4 and 6 against No. 9 UCLA in Provo.
