BYU Claims Top Spot in MPSF Preseason Poll
PROVO, Utah -- No. 1 BYU men’s volleyball has been selected to finish first in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation by its head coaches, the MPSF announced Friday.
This is the fifth time in six years BYU has claimed the top spot. The Cougars collected the maximum of 36 points and six first place votes. Pepperdine is in spot number two with 27 points and 1 first place vote, followed by UCLA with 25 points.
BYU won all six of its MPSF conference matchups last year before the COVID-19 shutdown. The Cougars ranked first in the MPSF and the NCAA in the final polls of the 2020 season. Fourteen players are returning to the squad, including the entire starting lineup and the 2020 AVCA National Player of the Year, Gabi Garcia Fernandez.
The Cougars were ranked first in the nation by the AVCA’s preseason poll earlier this week as six MPSF teams will start the season in the top 15 of the AVCA NCAA rankings.
