PROVO, Utah – BYU men's volleyball junior middle blocker Felipe de Brito Ferreira was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

De Brito Ferreira led No. 2 BYU with 13 total blocks in wins over No. 7 UCLA and No. 8 Pepperdine last week, helping the Cougars to improve to 12-0 and 2-0 in conference play. The junior matched his season high of six block in a sweep over the Bruins. He had a season-high seven blocks two days later in a four-set victory against the Waves while adding five kills on a .500 clip. The middle blocker currently ranks fifth in the NCAA DI-II with an average of 1.289 blocks per set.

The award is de Brito Ferreira’s first of the season and the third-straight MPSF weekly defensive honor given to a BYU player. The Cougars have now received seven of the 12 total weekly honors so far this year.

BYU will play Grand Canyon in its first conference road match of the season on Friday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m. MST at GCU Arena.
