Stanley receives second consecutive MPSF Defensive Player of the Week
WOODLAND, Calif. – BYU men’s volleyball senior setter Wil Stanley was named the MPSF Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row on Monday.
Stanley totaled 19 digs with zero receiving errors and two blocks to help No. 2 BYU to back-to-back wins over No. 3 UC Santa Barbara last week. The senior opened the two-game series with eight digs while matching his career high in kills with three and led the Cougars with 42 assists on a .402 hitting percentage. The following night he notched his third double-double in four matches with 38 assists and 11 digs. Stanley also added two blocks, a kill and an ace in the five-set comeback victory over the Gauchos.
The setter recorded consecutive double-doubles in two wins over No. 5 UC Irvine to be named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week last week. The Cougars have now collected six of the nine total weekly conference honors so far this year.
BYU will open up conference play this Thursday, Feb. 6, at home against No. 7 UCLA before hosting No. 8 Pepperdine on Saturday, Feb. 8.
