Gardini receives MPSF Offensive Player of the Week
WOODLAND, Calif. – Sophomore outside hitter Davide Gardini was named the MPSF Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
After being voted the MPSF Defensive Player of the Week last week, the All-American claimed this week’s offensive recognition by leading No. 3 BYU men’s volleyball to consecutive sweeps over No. 15 Penn State over the weekend.
Gardini recorded a combined 24 kills on an exceptional .600 clip while averaging four kills per set. On the first night, the sophomore totaled 13 kills on a career-high .750 hitting percentage (min. 10 kills) while adding eight digs, two assists one block and an ace. His hitting percentage tied for the 10th highest individual hitting percentage in a single match in the BYU rally era (min. 12 kills). The following night, Gardini led both teams with 11 kills on a .474 hitting percentage in addition to contributing five blocks, two digs and one ace.
The outside hitter will look to continue his strong play as the Cougars take on Mount Olive in back-to-back matches on Jan. 17-18 in Mt. Olive, North Carolina.
