PROVO, Utah — The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its list of 2019 All-Americans on Monday, with two Cougars earning national honors.

Sophomore opposite hitter Gabi Garcia Fernandez was named to the All-America Second Team for the second consecutive year. He ranked fourth in the nation in kills per set with 4.29 on a .281 hitting percentage. He also averaged 1.49 digs per set and .74 blocks per set. Garcia Fernandez becomes the 15th player out of BYU’s 28 All-Americans to have been awarded multiple times. The Cougars’ 49 all-time All-American certificates are second-most in Division I-II men’s volleyball.

Freshman Davide Gardini was given an honorable mention by the AVCA for his outstanding first season at BYU, during which he averaged 3.47 kills on a .320 hitting percentage. He also contributed 1.36 digs per set and .70 blocks per set. Gardini was named a Freshman All-American by Off the Block last week after he was the only player to win National Freshman of the Week three times this season.
