BYU Athletics has published its seventh entry in The Athletes’ Journal—a series featuring Cougar athletes telling their story in their own words.

Gabi Garcia Fernandez, a sophomore on the BYU men's volleyball team, shares his story of growing up in Puerto Rico, learning the game of volleyball and working to become the player he is today. Garcia Fernandez tells how volleyball has shaped his life and how he hopes to set an example for those around him.

The Athletes’ Journal series will regularly feature the unique perspectives of BYU student-athletes throughout the year. The series will provide in-depth insight into the lives of members of BYU’s intercollegiate sports programs.

The Athletes’ Journal will be published monthly on the BYU Exposure Gallery and will be available at BYUCougars.com and via BYU’s social media channels.
