PROVO, Utah – Off the Block, a collegiate men's volleyball website, has named Gabi Garcia Fernandez its National Freshman of the Week.

Fernandez led all players in his collegiate debut Friday against Loyola-Chicago with 23 kills. He also had 12 kills on a .409 hitting percentage the next night against Lewis.

This is the first time a BYU player has earned National Freshman of the Week honors since outside attacker Brenden Sander in 2015.

The Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Freshman of the Week award is presented each week during the regular season to the NCAA Division I-II men’s volleyball freshman who had the most outstanding performance.
