No. 2 Cougars take on No. 15 Cal Baptist on the road

PROVO, Utah – No. 2 BYU men’s volleyball stays on the road this week for a pair of conference matches at No. 15 Cal Baptist.

Last Time Out

BYU (10-2, 6-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) traveled to the East Coast for matches at Princeton and NJIT. The Cougars swept both teams behind a combined 26 kills from Tim Dobbert to finish their nonconference schedule 4-0.

No. 15 Cal Baptist

  • BYU will play Cal Baptist (8-7, 3-7 MPSF) on both Friday, Feb. 19, and Saturday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. PST.
  • The Lancers have won five of their last six matches, falling only to No. 1 Long Beach along that stretch. Additionally, Enrique de Diego won conference and national honors on Feb. 8 for an errorless performance over four matches.
  • Cal Baptist currently sits tied for ninth in the conference standings with UC Irvine. The Lancers were picked to finish 11th in the preseason poll after a 6-22, 2-20 season in 2015.
  • The Cougars lead the overall series history 19-3 and are 2-1 when playing at Cal Baptist. Last year, BYU swept the series at home, winning in four sets the first night before following that up with a sweep the next night.
  • The Lancers are led this season by first-year head coach Derek Schmitt.
