LAS -- BYU men’s tennis players earned honors from the Mountain West Conference Wednesday at the tournament banquet in Las Vegas. Juniors Thomas Shubert and Evan Urbina were both named to the All-MWC singles team.

Shubert received one MWC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week award this season. He has compiled a 29-11 record so far, competing mostly at the No. 1 position for the Cougars. Shubert went 3-2 against MWC opponents and upset No. 42 George Coupland from Mississippi State earlier this year. Shubert was also honored as an All-MWC doubles team selection with partner Cassidy Mears.

Urbina joined his classmate on the All-MWC singles team. This is the second year in a row the junior has been named to the conference first team. He tallied a 5-3 record against MWC players and a 26-11 overall record. Urbina was named player of the week three times this season.

BYU will begin tournament play Friday against the winner of the TCU/Utah match, which will be played Thursday at 9 a.m. PT. All matches will be played at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas.
